About
Convinced that more can be done, The 2nd Chance was founded on the model of British charity shops, with a very simple principle: From items that are no longer needed, a second chance is offered to others, while preserving the environment from unnecessary waste.
It is a simple process of circular economy where discarded goods become the resource.
•Instead of throwing them away, people donate their goods to The 2nd Chance.
•The environment is saved from unnecessary waste.
•Goods are sold or redirected to upcycling to be sold after processing.
•This resource provides work and employment.
•The small price increases the purchasing power of vulnerable communities that participate in the local economy.
•The fragile population regains its dignity and the empowerment to enter the circle of consumption.
•Profits from sales are donated to social, charitable and ecological causes.
Thankfully with your help, The 2nd Chance hopes to provide a wealth of socioeconomic values to the local population by reaching across social and demographic boundaries to attract customers, providing affordable and unexpected items to a cross-section of Mauritian society. The 2nd Chance also aims to create a world of employment and volunteer opportunities. While bringing social and ecological benefits, The 2nd Chance would like to build a common interest focusing on the objects’ circle of life, where textiles and other goods are not dumped. And if, as an added bonus, we can combat the social isolation of clients and volunteers by providing a place where people can drop by to chat, socialise and build up their self-esteem, all goals would be fulfilled. |
